BIOSIS Previews Reloaded on Ovid

The reload of BIOSIS Previews on Ovid Gateway is now complete bringing significant enhancements for users.

Easy Lookup of Concept Codes – The new “Permuted Index Tool” enables users to successfully locate and display Concept Codes even when these do not begin with the search term entered. For example, a search for “proteins” will not simply display those terms beginning with “proteins” but will find other relevant terms such as “Biochemistry Methods – Proteins, Peptides and Amino Acids”.

In addition, the display now includes a click-through link from each phrase to its respective location within the topical hierarchy (tree) of these phrases to aid understanding.


Improved mapping to Subject Heading – The “Map Term to Subject Heading” option, used to match the search term with the BIOSIS controlled vocabulary, now displays all Subject Headings as text descriptors rather than numeric code as sometimes happened previously. So, for example, “10050” displays as “Biochemistry methods – General” making it far more comprehensible to users. Note, the numeric Concept Code, if entered, will continue to map to the textual description.
