RLG Cultural Materials initiative coming to a close in May 2007

After a recent meeting of Cultural Materials Alliance participants it has been announced that the Cultural Materials service will be terminated at the end of May 2007.

The timeline for winding down Cultural Materials is:
  • In January, RLG Programs office provided advance information to the policy group, Alliance members, and Index Stock Imagery of their intention to terminate the Cultural Materials initiative.
  • In February, RLG Programs office will send official notice of the termination to Index Stock Imagery, subscribers, and the Alliance Participants (primary and legal contacts).
  • By the end of May, RLG Programs office will close down Trove.net and the Cultural Materials service.
  • In June, RLG Programs office will receive a final report in preparation for the payment of licensing royalties to institutions whose content was licensed through Index Stock Imagery.
Note that USC's participation in the Cultural Materials initiative is limited to the Works Progress Administration's Land Use Survey Maps for the City of Los Angeles (1939). These images will remain accessible via the USC Digital Archive.
