IEEE Xplore Upgrade Coming in July

On Saturday 29 July, IEEE will release a major system upgrade to the
IEEE Xplore digital library.
As a result of this upgrade, users may experience up to 8 hours of
downtime beginning at approximately 8:00 EDT (-5 UTC).

standardized syntax for organizing bibliographic metadata and
identifiers in a URL and transferring data between information services.
Links are enabled between unsubscribed content in IEEE Xplore to a
library resolver, leading users to appropriate resources within their
institution. With this enhancement, librarians can work with
commercially available link resolver software to fully enable their
publication catalog. OpenURL will be provided in these areas:
* Search results
* References
* Brief abstracts
* IEEE Book abstracts
Other features of the IEEE Xplore 2.1.4 upgrade include:
* RefWorks and Bibtex format downloadable citations from IEEE
AbstractPlus records, search results, and tables of contents
* Monthly lists of each periodical's most-downloaded articles
* Watermarked PDF documents, illustrating the value of our library
subscription.

HAPI launches a new website

It is with great pleasure that HAPI announces the unveiling of HAPI’s new website design on Friday, July 14, 2006. A beta version of the new site has been linked from the current version during the past month. Right away users willl notice the fresh, new look and a number of new features including:· The text of the website available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese;· Boolean searching;· A Quick search box that searches the HAPI database;· New pages including FAQ, Tools for Librarians, Our Partners, and Criteria for Inclusion in HAPI; But not everything has changed! They are still at the same URL -- http://hapi.ucla.edu/. You can still build a personalized bibliography (now called the Marked List) to email, print, or download. And they'll continue to set up OpenURL linking for interested institutions. Also on the horizon is a subscriber administration feature that will allow us to manage our institutional contact and IP information and access our usage statistics. While a great deal of time and energy has gone into designing and testing the site, it's inevitable that there will be a few bumps in the road that will surface once the site goes live. HAPI will greatly appreciate our patience through the transition. HAPI's new design and functionalities are based on extensive usability testing to better understand users' needs and behaviors.

Project MUSE News: RSS feeds now available

Project MUSE is very pleased to announce the implementation of RSS feeds for all journals in MUSE. The RSS feed is an alert tool that provides users with instant notification about news, updates and additions to titles within the MUSE collection. The RSS feeds complement the e-mail journal alert service. Both offer students, librarians, researchers and faculty valuable tools for staying current with information about their favorite titles from the over 300 journals in the MUSE collection. The new RSS feed for Latest Issues enables users to easily survey the contents of the four most recent issues of a journal by linking to the corresponding Tables of Contents. MUSE subscribers have direct access to the full text articles from the RSS feeds. Information about subscribing to the feeds is found at the Project MUSE RSS Syndication page (http://feeds.muse.jhu.edu). Please visit this page often, as additional feeds will be added soon.
The following link provides a description of RSS feeds and why they have become a popular method for information gathering. The link also provides descriptions of and links to some of the better-known RSS Readers - http://searchenginewatch.com/searchday/article.php/3531486
Project MUSE is excited to add RSS feeds to the array of tools available to researchers that make it easy to locate and access full text articles in MUSE.

ProQuest Historical Annual Reports available

ProQuest Historical Annual Reports is now available via the Electronic Resources page.

ProQuest Digital Dissertations and Theses available

I'm delighted to be able to announce that [...] USC [...] [now has] access to all available full texts of dissertations and theses in ProQuest Digital Dissertations and Theses. Included are approximately 650,000 titles, with around 55,000 titles added each year. Note that not all titles in Dissertation Abstracts are available in digital format, only those that have been digitized by ProQuest on an on-going basis after 1996 or that each institution has paid to have digitized for titles produced in the years prior to 1996. A significant number of institution have done so, however. Unfortunately, USC is not yet among them.

[...]

We've are able to subscribe to this critical online resource as a result of the generous increase in our materials budget for FY07. [...]
