AP Images (formerly AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive)

By July 1, 2007 AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive will transition subscribers to a more powerful, intuitive search engine from the Associated Press called AP Images, "an unparalleled resource for primary source news photos from the Associated Press."
  • AP Images contains the same primary source photo and graphic content as the AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive, but with additional content and enhanced searching capabilities, such as event and people searches linked directly to a primary search, and a brand new historical collection.
  • AP Images contains over 3.5 million photographs from the 1840s through today, with more than 3,000 photos being added on a daily basis.
  • Additionally, users can search through over 60,000 graphics, including maps, timelines, logos and graphs.
  • Subscribers have unlimited access to this unique resource 24/7 from their institution as well as remote locations.
  • All content from AP Images may be downloaded and used for educational purposes with a subscription.
  • AP text and audio will not be included in the initial transition. They intend to have those components included later this summer.

Alexander Street Press Latino Literature new look

Alexander Street Press' Latino Literature database has a brand new look. If you visit the collections today you will see the original interface, but on your right there is a link to the new interface. The two interfaces will be run in tandem for awhile but will eventually wean off the old one and run exclusively from the new.

You will see a lot of great new features on the new interface:

  • Thumbnail images of highlighted collections on the main page
  • RSS feeds to notify you when new materials are added
  • “Print this page” icon
  • Static URL for every page of content
  • New sorting options in the Browse section
  • Redesigned Advance Search tool
  • Red highlighting of keywords searched

Users can continue to work from the old interface for awhile but eventually Alexander Street Press will transition to the new one.

Catalogue of Scientific Papers

The second major installment of the Royal Society's Catalogue of Scientific Papers, 1800-1900 is now online and part of USC's subscription to Paratext's 19th Century Masterfile. It is hard to overestimate the importance of this resource for both scientific and humanistic research for patrons and scholars.

The files of the Catalogue of Scientific Papers now online via 19th Century Masterfile include over 450,000 citations to all manner of scientific inquiry during the 19th Century--from Darwin to Freud. CSP indexed 1,555 periodicals in numerous languages, and included the transactions of the European academies and other learned societies.

The Catalogue of Scientific Papers was described in Alice B. Kroeger's first edition of Guide to Reference Books (ALA 1902, and in every subsequent edition) as "a monumental index of first importance." The original author-index catalogue covered 19 chronological volumes. Subsequently, three Subject Indexes were published.

Two major installments of Catalogue of Scientific Papers are now online for searching through 19th Century Masterfile:
  • Installment 1: The three Subject indexes produced by the Royal Society covering Pure Mathematics (1908); Mechanics (1909); and a 2-volume set covering Physics (1914).
  • Installment 2: Volumes 13-19 covering 1884-1900, containing over 400,000 citations.

For a quick glance at all the files now available through 19th Century Masterfile, please go to www.paratext.com/NCM2007.pdf

The research horizons for scholars and patrons are now greatly enhanced through access to this enormously valuable historical resource. It's all part of the 19th Century Masterfile: The First Stop for Historical Research.

Classical Scores Library PDF Issue

The PDF scores in Classical Scores Library may not load correctly for every user. Classical Scores Library was deliberately built around industry standard software, like Adobe Reader, because company wanted to ensure the widest compatibility with the broad range of hardware and software combinations used by the patrons. This problem appears to be caused by a few specific combinations of software and settings and the publisher is working closely with affected users to identify the cause and remedy the situation.Unfortunately, due to a wide range of factors, including user and network security settings and multiple browser and reader combinations, it is very difficult to accurately predict the amount of time it will take to remedy the situation.Until the publisher has a solution, there are some steps you can take to improve our user experience. While the problem is not confined to one particular browser, Firefox appears to have the least amount of difficulty displaying the PDFs. If possible, please try using Firefox as your browser. If you are using Internet Explorer and find that the PDFs load partially or not at all, please try refreshing your browser page to reload the document.
